Digital Marketing in Tauranga
The fastest growing city in the country, which changes what ranking means.
Tauranga has grown faster than anywhere else in New Zealand and is now around 161,000 people. That growth is the single most important fact about search here, and almost nobody plans for it.

Work we have done here
We work with businesses across New Zealand and overseas, and the Bay of Plenty is well within that.
Home building and construction. Website and SEO for a builder in a considered-purchase trade, where the site has to survive months of research rather than win a quick click.
Commercial services. A long-established firm in a fragmented market, where the winning move was a page for each sector rather than one page listing them all.
An internet provider covering an entire region - the largest build we have done, and a lesson in what happens when the service area is bigger than any one town.
Behind it, twenty-two years of Fortune 500 marketing across four continents with LVMH, Estée Lauder and The Body Shop.
Growth is the whole story
Tauranga sits inside what economists call the Golden Triangle with Auckland and Hamilton - together roughly half the country's population and half its GDP. It has the largest port in New Zealand and it is projected to be the fourth largest city by 2050.
For search, rapid growth means one thing above all: the competitive picture you assessed six months ago is not the current one.
New businesses arrive constantly. A position you held comfortably last year can be under pressure this year without you doing anything wrong. Ranking here is less “get to the top and stay there” and more “keep moving”.
New suburbs, new searches
Pāpāmoa barely registered as a search term fifteen years ago and is now one of the larger residential areas in the Bay. That pattern repeats across the sub-region as subdivisions fill.
Which means keyword research goes stale faster in Tauranga than almost anywhere else. Terms that had no volume when your site was built may have real volume now, and nobody will tell you - the traffic simply goes to whoever noticed first.
It is worth re-checking annually rather than treating the original research as settled.
The Mount is a different market
Mount Maunganui functions as its own place in people's heads, with its own search behaviour, its own seasonal tourism swing and a customer who often is not a Tauranga resident at all.
If your customers are there, that is a page in its own right. Lumping it into a Tauranga page is the most common thing we would fix first.
Seasonality is real here
Summer changes the population meaningfully. For hospitality, trades doing holiday-home work, and anything tourism-adjacent, demand is not flat across the year and neither should the advertising spend be.
Planning a twelve-month budget as twelve equal months is leaving money on the table in a place like this.

Questions from Tauranga businesses
Does fast growth make ranking easier or harder?
Both. There are more customers searching, and more competitors arriving to chase them. The practical difference is that a position is less permanent here than elsewhere - it needs maintaining rather than winning once.
Should Mount Maunganui have its own page?
Usually yes. The Mount behaves as a separate place with separate search behaviour and a strong seasonal swing. Folding it into a Tauranga page is the most common thing we would change.
How often should keyword research be redone here?
Annually, which is more often than we would say anywhere else. New suburbs create genuinely new search terms in Tauranga, and the traffic goes to whoever noticed first.
How do we work together day to day?
Easily. Everything is in your dashboard as it happens, reporting is monthly and in plain English, and the phone number reaches the person doing the work. Most of our clients are outside Kāpiti and several have been with us for years.
